'Thelma' Flops at the Box-Office, Earns P1.35-M in First 5 Days

Thelma” starring Dance Princess and Kapamilya Star Maja Salvador is a certified box-office flop!

The film premiered in more than 50 theaters last September 7 and made only P1.35 million on its first five days. This is according to the latest figures released by the third party tabulator Box-office Mojo for the period September 7–11, 2011 (click HERE to see the figures).

The story of the movie “Thelma” is very good and inspiring, and should have been marketed better. Considered also it was given by a graded "A" by the Cinema Evaluation Board. We also think the incident involving the lead-star, Maja with her boyfriend Matteo and co-star Coco seems have a “minor” effect and turns out a bad publicity for the film.

Sad to say that the said film is currently the lowest-grossing Pinoy mainstream film for 2011. ‘Thelma” should gross P4 million more on the next days and weeks to be able to beat “Tum: My Pledge of Love” starring Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez with a final box-office receipt of P5.16 million.

Thelma” is directed by Paul Soriano and distributed by Star Cinema. Also in the movie are Tetchie Agbayani, John Arcilla, Sue Prado, Eliza Pineda and Jason Abalos.
