GMA-7 Topped November 2011 National TV Ratings, based on Nielsen data

Nationwide ratings winner GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) further hiked its lead in television ratings versus competitors ABS-CBN and TV5 from October to November, according to broadcast industry’s most trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Based on full November data (November 27 to 30 based on overnight readings), GMA remained the number one free-to-air television channel with 37.5 total day average household audience share points, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.3 points by an imposing 8.2 points; and much higher than TV5’s 15.

GMA was notably the only TV station that grew its total day household audience share performance across all areas this November relative to the previous month.

Based on an estimated five viewers per household, GMA’s margins translate to almost 1.5 million more viewers from all over the country over ABS-CBN; and 4.2 million more viewers over TV5.

In the list of overall top 30 programs, GMA’s programs outnumbered ABS-CBN’s. There were 16 Kapuso programs in the list with the historic boxing special Pacquiao-Marquez III: World Welterweight Championship clinching the top spot.

GMA especially made remarkable nationwide ratings performance in both daytime and afternoon blocks, where it left behind competitors by double digit margins.

In Urban Luzon, which houses 77 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA hit 41.3 total day audience share points, higher than ABS-CBN’s 25 by 16.3 points; and ahead of TV5’s 15.5 by 25.8 points.

The margins translate to 2.3 million more viewers from the said area attuned to GMA over ABS-CBN; and 3.7 million more viewers over TV5.

In the Kapuso bailiwick Mega Manila, which comprises 58 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA registered 42.2 share points, 18.9 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 23.3 points; 25.8 points away from TV5’s 16.4 points.

The figures translate to GMA having two million more viewers over ABS-CBN; and 2.8 million more viewers over TV5.

There were 21 GMA programs in the list of overall top 30 programs in Urban Luzon; while 22 GMA programs made it to the same list in Mega Manila. The Pacquiao-Marquez III: World Welterweight Championship led all programs in both rosters. In the top 10 list, GMA almost made a clean sweep with eight entries in Mega Manila, and seven in Urban Luzon.

Other GMA programs that showed consistent performance in both areas include the longest running noontime show Eat Bulaga, banner newscast 24 Oras, primetime shows Amaya, Iglot, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, and Munting Heredera.

The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement used by GMA is used by 21 companies including two other local networks, namely, TV5 and Solar Entertainment; Faulkner Media; CBN Asia; 13 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only major local TV network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

In Mega Manila alone, the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 880 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a total sample size of 2,005 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

GMA-7's Danserye 'Time Of My Life' Now On Its Final Week

An overflow of dance and emotions awaits viewers in the last week of GMA-7's danserye Time Of My Life.

On Monday (November 14), the primetime drama series revisits its first big dance scene when it premiered last July. In the said scene, Lisa (Jean Garcia) announces her retirement as Dancing Queen. But an accident happened on stage, which placed both Shane (Kris Bernal) and Zaira (LJ Reyes) in critical condition. Will this event help reveal or further conceal the truth that Shane is Lisa and Fred's (Raymond Bagatsing) long-lost daughter?

And even as the drama series nears its finale, Martha (Cherie Gil) is not giving up on making Lisa's life miserable. This time, she connives with Zaira to create more problems for both Lisa and Shane.

Viewers are also excited to know what will happen to Fred and Lisa's love story as well as Shane's choice between Patrick (Mark Herras) and Jason (Roco Nacino). Will Fred and Lisa still have their chance even if the latter is still married to Gregory (Emilio Garcia)?  And who has really captured Shane's heart--Patrick, whom she loved first, or Jason, whom she also holds dear to her heart?

Even the show's fans are torn between the two good-looking dancers. In the Facebook page of Time Of My Life, supporters of both Patrick and Jason are very much active. Some say that Shane should end up with Patrick because he is her first love. Others prefer Jason because he has been in love with her since the beginning.

Jive with the Time Of My Life cast until their huling hataw on Friday, November 18. Time Of My Life airs before Big Thing from Monday to Thursday and before Bubble Gang on Friday on GMA-7 Telebabad.

Sarah Lahbati’s ‘Kokak’ Hits Philippine’s Afternoon Block Starting November 14

A discovery of GMA-7's reality artista search, Starstruck, Sarah Lahbati transforms into a lead star in the TV adaptation of Ruben Marcelino's comic series, Kokak.

Beginning November 14, Sarah's beauty graces GMA-7's Afternoon Prime block in her first starring role as Kara, a woman who becomes a frog when her feet get wet at night and goes back to being human when morning comes.

Despite such curse, Kara captivates two men portrayed by princely Kapuso actors, TJ Trinidad and JC Tiuseco. Carl (TJ) is the first male that Kara sees and falls in love with while Roco (JC) is a small-time crook who later becomes a martyr for the young woman's love.

The story of Kokak begins with the love of Kara's parents, Renato (Gary Estrada) and Angela (Jessa Zaragoza). Although they are about to have their baby, Renato's ex-girlfriend, Vicky (Angelika Dela Cruz), cannot accept that she has lost the man she loves to someone else. Thus, she commits suicide.

Veronica (Deborah Sun) and Carlito, Vicky's mother and brother, are devastated by her unexpected death. Thus, when she discovers the reason behind Vicky's suicide, Veronica decides to avenge her daughter. Coming from a family of witches, Veronica curses Renato and makes him lose his sanity. She also uses a hex on the pregnant Angela and leaves her in a pond full of frogs.

After the incident, Angela has not seen Renato again and she thinks that he has purposely left her. With her Tya Berta (Ms. Caridad Sanchez), she decides to continue her pregnancy and raise her child all by herself.

Soon, Angela gives birth to a beautiful baby girl and names her Kara. The baby seems normal until Angela bathes her and realizes that Veronica's curse transforms her into a frog! When the whole town hears about Angela's monstrous baby, she and Tya Berta leave to reside in the middle of a secluded forest. There, Kara's secret is hidden and safe from judgmental people.

Kara grows up not seeing any other people than her mom and Tya Berta. She is also unaware that there are male human beings. Angela forbids Kara to leave the forest and tells her that there are dangerous monsters outside.

Although contented with her mom's love, Kara feels that there is more to the world than just the forest. One day, she decides to defy her mother's instructions, goes to the border of the forest and finds Carl, the first man she has ever seen. Despite her fears, Kara approaches Carl to help him because he is badly wounded. Meanwhile, Carl perceives Kara as a beautiful forest goddess who helps him.

After helping Carl, Kara returns home happily because of her discovery. She has fallen in love with the wounded man and she hopes to see him again. However, when Kara goes back to the edge of the forest, some townsmen see her and lust over her. They chase Kara until her feet get wet and she transforms into a frog.

When Elsa (Manilyn Reynes) experienced ‘Post-Partum Depression’ last week, Pepito Manaloto exerted his best efforts to make her feel that she is the most beautiful and most important girl in his life.

This Sunday, Pepito and Elsa will be very busy in preparing for the baptism of their newly born baby, Clarissa. The couple will start the preparation by listing numerous godparents who will serve as second parents and who will also take part in guiding the baby while growing up.

As the event draws nearer, they will trim down the list of the Clarissa’s godparents. Because of the demanding preparations for the baby’s christening, they’ll forget to include their good friend Maricar (Carmina Villarroel) as one of the godparents.

How will Carmina feel about this? Will it affect the friendship between the couple and Maricar?

'Amaya' and 'Philippine Treasures' Recognized for Showcasing Philippine Jewelry Heritage

GMA's top-rating epicserye Amaya and the Public Affairs documentary special Philippine Treasures were recognized recently by the Meycauayan Jewelry Industry Association, Inc., an organization composed of 135 jewellers in Meycauayan, Bulacan, for the promotion of the country's rich jewelry-making heritage.

Top-billed by Marian Rivera, Amaya, is an epic series set in the pre-colonial era of Philippine History. Apart from Filipino customs and traditions, the series also features native Filipino costumes and jewelries patterned after the popular designs of the era. Most of the jewelries used in the series were crafted by jewellers from Meycauayan, Bulacan.

Philippine Treasures, on the other hand, is a documentary special that showcased the Philippines' rich historical and cultural heritage, particularly the country's priceless artifacts.

"Recognitions like this inspire us to make our programs not only more appealing to our audience but also more educational while at the same time entertaining," said Senior Program Manager Cheryl Ching-Sy, who received the plaque for Amaya. "We are thankful to the Meycauayan Jewelry Industry Association for making us the first entertainment program to be awarded by their organization," she added.

Philippine Treasures host Mel Tiangco received the recognition on behalf of the program.

"Isa sa mga mithiin ng programang Philippine Treasures ang palaganapin ang appreciation ng sambayanan sa mga yaman ng ating bansa," Tiangco said.

Philippine Treasures aired on September 11 on GMA's Sunday Night Box Office (SNBO), while Amaya airs weeknights after 24 Oras. Due to its successful run, the epicserye was extended until January 2012.
