The comedy flick of Star Cinema and Viva FilmsThe Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin” starring Vice Ganda is on track to become the highest-grossing Pinoy movie of all time for hitting a whopping P 270,464,053 million in just two weeks time only.

Vice Ganda show in Doha, Qatar went smoothly after negative media reports!

DOHA, QATAR: Filipino comedian and TV host, Vice Ganda, who staged two shows here last evening, told the audience he was scared to come to Doha after reports of anger among citizens here appeared in sections of the media.

Ganda, though said in a lighter vein, that he agreed to come only after the organisers assured him that nothing untoward would happen.

“I was really scared to come due to negative media reports,” the artiste said in Tagalog, the lingua franca of the Philippines.

There was confusion at the beginning of the show which started off around 4.30pm as word was out that non-Filipinos would not be let in even though many Filipinas, particularly, could be seen queuing up at the gate of the hall with their non-Filipino husbands and companions.

The organizers denied later that the show was not open to non-Filipinos. A highlight was the presence of heavily-built, muscular bodyguards near the stage.

Some five bodyguards, from private security services, could be seen near the stage mainly to prevent people from the audience approach Ganda and other artistes. The organizers looked a bit worried when three men dressed in the Qatari attire were seen near the venue, as media reports earlier suggested that there was anger in the largely conservative Qatari community over the arrival of Ganda here because of he being homo.

Writing on several local social networking sites a number of citizens had expressed anger and called on the authorities not to allow the comedian into the country.

Some commentators had threatened that they would attend the show to protest since his presence meant an insult to Qatari customs and traditions.

However, it later turned out that those dressed in the Qatari attire were not protestors and likely have been plainclothes policemen.

What was unusual at both the shows held at the same venue (a prominent five-star hotel) was that everyone entering the hall with a ticket was asked to write his or her name with mobile number on a log book.

Arguably, never in the past the organizers of any stage show here had bothered to maintain a record of those attending the performances.

The organizers, when asked about it, told this newspaper that the log book was only meant to keep a record so they could contact these people the next time a show was lined up.

The two shows Ganda and other artistes performed at, though, went on smoothly and those attending had a good time.

QATAR TRIBUNE: Filipino Stars (Vice Ganda, Jon Avila, & Ruffa Me Quinto) audience in splits!

Doha, Qatar, FILIPINOS came in large numbers at Sheraton hotel to support and show solidarity with their country’s top stars Vice Ganda, Rufa Mae Quinto and Jon Avila in their first-ever performance in Doha on Friday.

Despite some objection by certain groups towards the Filipino show, and comedian Vice Ganda in particular, the house-full event went off smoothly and turned out to be a smash-hit in the end.

Funny-girl Rufa Mae Quinto kicked off the main acts of the three-hour show.

The actress, clad in gold-coloured dress, serenaded the crowd with her wacky renditions of hits by well-known Filipino singers such as Regine Velasquez and Lani Misalucha.

The beautiful and widely-admired Filipina comedian engaged her kababayans (compatriots) with her trademark comic antics.

She invited the CEO of Golden Relations Bilal Taha on the stage towards the end of the show.

The executive gamely played along with the funny stunts of the actress to the much delight of the crowd.

The Golden Relations, an event management company, organised the popular programme.

The Filipino-British actor Jon Avila’s entry on to the stage made most of the women go crazy.

Some of Avila’s female fans even rushed towards the stage for a better glimpse and took photograph of the debonair.

Avila, whose claim to fame included being a former housemate of ‘Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition II’, is among the current toasts of the Philippines entertainment industry.

He even performed two Filipino tracks and invited a girl from the crowd to be serenaded on stage.

After Avila’s adorable super-show, it was Vice Ganda’s turn to bring the house down.

The top Filipino comedian, who is followed across the globe for his wonderful comic sense and timing, made a grand appearance singing Lady Gaga’s hit number ‘Bad Romance’.

He was received with deafening applause by his kababayans who were looking forward to experience his unique brand of comedy.

Vice Ganda acknowledged the warm welcome from the people of Doha and spoke about his apprehensions to visit the city for the show.

“I actually hesitated at first to come to Doha after learning about some issues surrounding me.

But I thought about my Filipino fans.

I appreciate your show of solidarity and support today as I know that the money you used in purchasing tickets were hard-earned.

I know how it is like to be an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) as my mother is also an OFW,” the comedian candidly said.

The comedian then in his usual ‘top of the game’ style went all out to entertain his kababayans.

He also went out of his way to descend upon the stage to mingle with the crowd, trying to create a ‘home feel’ for some of his homesick Filipino supporters.

Towards the end of the show, Quinto and Avila joined with Vice Ganda to perform a medley of songs from Filipino chartbusters.

It was the trio’s way of showing appreciation to their Doha fans for transforming the evening into a great success and one to remember.

There were performances by local talents like Beats and Bytes Dancers too, prior to the main event.

Peninsular Qatar Newspaper: Controversial comedian’s (Vice Ganda) planned show triggers outrage!

DOHA, QATAR: Media reports of a popular Filipino comedian and TV host’s shows here tomorrow has stoked a major controversy as the visiting artiste is believed to be a gay.

Many in the Qatari community have been left angry after local Arabic dailies reported that comic Vice Ganda is to perform here with two well-known Filipino film personalities.

While some say that the fact that Ganda, who dresses up like a woman and wears make-up, has been allowed to stage a show for his community indicates that Qatar is opening up in preparation for the 2022 event, there are others who are dead opposed to his arrival here, least of all performing at a public venue.

Many in the largely conservative Qatari community have even threatened to approach the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs with a request to stop Ganda’s show.

Then, there are others who wonder how the controversial stage show is being permitted to be organised by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. Or, is that the Ministry has no say in the matter, wondered many.

Reports of Ganda’s show have created such a row that local social networking sites were yesterday abuzz with the talk of more than 100 people writing comments, most of them adverse.

“It’s an insult to our religion and culture. God save our country,” was how one commentator reacted, while another said that such a show being held on the eve of the Holy Month of Ramadan was a matter of
grave concern.

“This is the price we have to pay for openness and freedom,” wrote yet another commentator, cryptically asking if openness was really needed and if at all, at what cost.

One commentator wrote he wanted to know which senior officials were facilitating the entry of Ganda. “Are there officials above those who are allowing him to come here? They must intervene and prevent his entry.”

There was at least one commentator who said the Filipino community had no right to have fun at the expense of local traditions, religion and customs.

“The show is being held right before Ramadan. God forgive us!,” wrote a commentator, while another said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had given the go-ahead for the controversial show so the Cabinet must be approached with a request to stop it.

Some commentators said they would like to attend the show so they could hurl shoes and rotten tomatoes at the controversial artiste.

There were some who wanted to know when Ganda was supposed to arrive so they could go to the airport and ‘try and make him a man again’.

“Our country is not for homosexuals,” wrote an angry commentator, while another said the organisers had denied that Ganda was gay.

Only one commentator said that he thought the reports about the Filipino comedian were being exaggerated. “He is a comedian so he can look like that,” said the commentator.

Nag last taping na last June 21, 2011 Tuesday ang comedy sitcom ni Manny Pacquaio and Marian Rivera na SHOW ME DA MANNY (GMA-7).
Reason? fail ratings in Mega Manila at National TV Ratings. Dahil sa pagdating ng programa ni Vice Ganda na 'Gandang Gabi Vice' halos sinipa na ang ratings ng Show Me Da Manny sa ibaba. Gandang Gabi Vice remains unbeatable every Sunday mula ito unang ipinalabas.
