RJ Bautista Arraignment Reset to January 17, 2012
The arraignment of Ramon Joseph “RJ” Bautista, suspect in the killing of his older brother Ramgen, has been pushed back to next year due to pending motions from the defense and prosecution panels.
Clerk of Court Roberto Macalintal of Branch 274 of the Parañaque City Regional Trial Court (RTC) said the arraignment has been reset tentatively to January 17, 2012.
The prosecution panel filed a motion to amend information (charge sheet), which asked for the inclusion of other suspects Michael Nartea and Roy Francis Tolisora in the murder and frustrated murder charges.
The defense panel, on the other hand, filed a motion to quash the charges against RJ on grounds of illegal arrest.
The prosecution panel asked for 20 days to respond to the defense’s motion.
Wearing a black jacket and escorted by Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel, RJ arrived at the trial court past 7 a.m. to attend to his scheduled arraignment before the sala of Judge Fortunito Madrona.
He was accompanied by his mother, Genelyn Magsaysay, siblings Regine and Gayle, and legal counsel Atty. Dennis Manzanal.
He went back to his detention cell at the Parañaque City Jail after the court decided to postpone the arraignment.
RJ was no longer subjected to a preliminary investigation (PI) proceedings because he filed a waiver. His case was submitted to the court after the fiscal found probable cause to charge him for the murder.
RJ was tagged by Ruel Puzon, the star witness in the case, as the mastermind in the murder of Ramgen last October 28.
His sister Ramona Bautista, who fled the country last November 4, was also implicated in the murder of Ramgen and frustrated murder of Janelle Manahan in BF Homes, Parañaque.
Two other suspects, Glaiza Visda and Norwin dela Cruz, are now under police custody.
