A Mother's Story Starring Pokwang – Movie Poster, Cast Photos and Trailer Released

Top-Comedienne Pokwang finally lands a solo lead star role in silver screen via “A Mother’s Story”!

“A Mother’s Story“ is not a comedy movie but a purely family-drama. Yap! Pokwang takes on a dramatic role for this film! It’s a story of an OFW name Medy (portrayed by Pokwang), an illegal immigrant in the US working and striving to earn money for her children in the Philippines.

Also starring in the movie are Rayver Cruz, Xriel Manbat, Beth Tamayo, Daria Ramirez, Nonie Buencamino, Ana Capri, Jaime Fabregas, Aaron Junatas, K Brosas and with special participation of Atty. Michael J. Gurfinkel.

Directed by John-D J. Lazatin, produced by The Filipino Channel and distributed by ABS-CBN International and Star Cinema, “A Mother’s Story” opens in theaters nationwide on January 8, 2012.

The film has already premiered in several states in US like California and Nevada; London, Milan and other countries around the world for our “Pinoy Kababayans” out there.

Plot/Sypnosis

"Medy (Pokwang), a make-up artist, was given the chance of a lifetime to accompany a concert star to the United States for a performance. She promised her family that she will return after a week. However, while in America, she stumbled upon a former classmate Helen (Beth Tamayo) who convinced her to stay for good in the land of milk and honey. She initially refused, but eventually gave in, when she got a call one night from her husband that they need a big amount of money to bring her youngest daughter to the hospital. America has not been the friendliest to her and our story begins with her coming home to Manila literally with nothing. Medy’s two kids, King (Rayver Cruz) and Queenie (Xyriel Manabat) are now 19 and 7. King struggles with the return of his mother. Animosity, resentment, shame, and anger are issues he has built with Medy. For the young Queenie, it’s getting to know Nanay… who she thought would one day come out of a Balikbayan Box. And as for her husband, Medy discovers something she least expected.

How will Medy put her life and that of her family’s back together, now that she’s back after 7 long years?

Happy Old Year! ... Highlights and Lowlights of the Season Past

Tomoko Nakagawa, 1955

Let's give a toast
-- and roast a little, too -- to the season about to hit the history books. These informal impressions are drawn from my visits to most of the big tops and to Ringling. They are NOT based upon a careful evaluation of all I've seen.

Randomly speaking ...

Best News: Big Apple Circus is in fine hands, those of new artistic director Guillaume Dufresnoy. He has displayed both a penchant for novelty (porcupine and pig!) and a subtle flair for top-drawer staging. Will this alone turn the corner? Not exactly, but I think BAC has too much going for it to hit the skids. [comments that follow pertain to Dance On!]

Worst News: Continued media-rattling allegations of elephant abuse at Ringling: Mother Jones magazine doing a story on the issue; the show reaching a $270,000 settlement with the USDA, without admitting guilt. Jay Leno making hay of the issue on the Tonight Show. These unwelcome developments, combined with a bill being passed through congress that would curtail performing animals in circuses -- and the mere idea of the Ringling staff being taught how to handle and care for its own animals by USDA outsiders -- may mark the most embarrassing PR setback ever for "The Greatest Show on Earth." Not to mention the negative impact it will have upon public perceptions in general of all circuses. Who is ultimately responsible? Kenneth Feld.

Welcome Return: The aerial ballet, in new diverse forms, as witness wonderful incarnations of it on Cole Bros. Circus of Stars and Ringlings' Fully Charged.

Best act combing acrobatics and comedy: The African tumblers on Circus Vargas. A sly riot.

Most innovative act: The Wuqiao Acrobatic Troupe on Uni-wheels at Big Apple Circus

Best old thrill turn cleverly recycled. The human fuse on Ringling's Fully Charged.

Most delightful animal act: (hope I got this one right): Jenny Vidbel's horse-riding goats.

Best ringmaster (kindly keep in mind, I do not see all shows) Kelly Miller's John Moss III.

Worst ringmaster. Shall we count the blowhards? How about Cole, Ringling (Iverson), Vargas, and Carson & Barnes.

Best band: Big Apple Circus

Best taped score: Cole Bros. Circus of Stars

Worst performance setting (no rings,no respect): a tie between Ringling and Cole Bros. Circus of Stars

Best spectacle: The second half segments of Ringling's Fully Charged

Most Offensive spectacle: Unused ring curbs stacked in clusters on Ringling Fully Charged set. Rub your indifference in our eyes, Feld Family!

Warmest atmosphere: Kelly Miller Circus

Best little house act bordering on the amateur: The modestly delightful dogs on Carson & Barnes.

Most impressive contortion display: the solo contortionist on Carson & Barnes.

Most hair-raising thriller: As I recall, on Circus Vargas, the separation between the two halves of the Globe of Death when the thing split open was incredibly wide, giving me a chill I rarely get at circuses these safer days.

Most vexingly uneven show: Carson& Barnes, from world class to world crass.

Most remarkably scored big cage act: Cole Bros. Circus of Stars

Worst prop department: Cole Bros. klutzy forklift operations.

Biggest downer of the year: the thoroughly mean-spirited new film Water for Elephants.

Worst show-disrupting spiel: A tie between Kelly Miller's Peterson Peanut plea and Ted McCray's prolonged snake photo grind on Circus Vargas, bloating the intermission for as long as it takes.

Best performance setting: Big Apple Circus

Biggest disappointment: Cirque du Soleil's Totem. Is the world running out of talent enough to stock the CDS franchise? A thousand dry ice machines, a thousand flashing laser beams will not completely disguise threadbare goods.

Most welcome sight: A full house at Circus Vargas in Hollywood. Me wonders if the terrific CV product placement in Water for Elephants caused a minor stamped onto the lot at Sunset Boulevard -- boffo location!

The last word: To Baraboo's perennial booster, the good Doc Bob Dewel, who, like too many "visitors" to this blog, never deposits a single comment here but charms his way in through my e-mail. Bob's latest report on restoration work underway at his beloved Al Ringling Theatre: "Apparently we are never destined to have a sugar daddy with a million bucks or so, but are slowly restoring on our own, with a qualified artist. Outer lobby gleams, inner lobby is nearly done---we spent $1000 just to verify for certain the original colors (Peach and Gold, light and bright). ... All eleven dressings rooms restored, Ladies lounge partially finished ...Rapp and Rapp would be proud. So would Al. Ringling. Incidentally Al’s magnificent mansion is for sale! "

The last photos: Let's bring on Lory Lagoyda, whose mom and dad worked on Ringling 1955-56. Her mother, Tomoko Nakagawa, came over when she was just 18 with the Uyeno Troupe -- eight young ladies --from Japan, imported by John Ringling North to lend additional beauty and charm to production numbers. Lory's dad worked with the elephants. Here are some pics of Tomoko, and how happy she looks to be in the great Ringling chorus!

Beyonce Names Her Baby Girl Tiana- May Carter!!!

Rumors that tend to go viral overnight are usually from overworked social networking Web sites and get buried after creating a whole lot of buzz. It seems the same is going to happen to those rumors surrounding speculation of American singer Beyonce Knowles' pregnancy.

The newest rumor doing the rounds on Twitter suggests that Beyonce is now a mother...!!!

According to unconfirmed reports, the 30-year-old singer gave birth to a baby girl  this week and has named her daughter Tiana-May Carter. The reports, which neither the singer nor her husband - Jay-Z - have confirmed, state the pop diva gave birth to her first child at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

Beyonce announced her pregnancy earlier this year, at the MTV Video Music Awards. That announcement was followed by rumors suggesting she was faking her pregnancy by using a prosthetic belly (after her stomach appeared to change shapes and collapse as she sat down during a live television appearance in Australia) and was waiting for a surrogate to give birth to her baby.

Meanwhile, according to a MediaTakeOut.com report on Thursday, nurses at St. Luke's were "buzzing" at the news. However, the hospital authorities have made no official statement. The report claims the baby suite apparently reserved by the couple is equipped to deliver three babies and accommodate twelve people.

Just for the record, Beyonce's mother - Tina, sister - Solange, and nephew - Julez were spotted in New York, adding weight to the delivery rumors.

"It is September 23. Right now I'm actually shooting the video for "Countdown" and I'm six months pregnant, pretending my stomach is flat in body suits," the singer was overheard saying, at a public appearance a few months back.

Meanwhile, Twitter has been buzzing all this while, with all the rumors and speculations flying around, logging over 9,000 tweets per second!

Goodbye Paputok Launches by DOH Dr. Eric Tayag Days Before Media Noche

Goodbye Paputok Launches by DOH Dr. Eric Tayag Days Before Media Noche

The Department of Health launches what it considers as the world’s safest firecracker to reduce the number of injuries during New Year’s Eve celebrations. (Photo courtesy of Paquito Repelente)

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) launched on Wednesday, December 28, what the government health institution considers as the world's safest firecracker to reduce the number of injuries during New Year's Eve celebrations.

It is a compact disc featuring sounds of different firecrackers, such as the watusi, Judas' belt and whistle bomb, among others.

"We call it the Goodbye Paputok (a.k.a. The Safest Firecracker Xperience). This is the safest firecracker in the world. Instead of lighting firecrackers, we should just play this," DOH Assistant Secretary Enrique Tayag said.

The music CD also has a "Fireworks Symphony" preceded by a countdown, as commonly practiced around the world during moments before midnight of January 1.

After being mass produced, the CD will then be distributed to local government officials, which will be tasked to reproduce them and distribute to constituents.

Metro Manila will be given priority since it is where most firecracker-related injuries come from, Tayag said.

The CD, a brainchild of Six Cycle Mind’s guitarist Herbert Hernandez, may soon be available for download, Tayag said.

During the launch of the CD, the official also said that more than half of the total number of firecracker-related injuries is from the piccolo, a firecracker that looks like a miniature dynamite.

"Ang piccolo ang number one na dahilan kung bakit marami nadidisgrasya. Kung wala ito, 64 lang ang kaso natin," he said.

Injuries have reached 141, the DOH's Aksyon: Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR) report said, three days before the New Year.

The number is 32 cases or 18 percent lower than the same period last year, according to the DOH-National Epidemiology Center (NEC).

Of this figure, 77 cases are caused by the piccolo, seven by stray bullets, one due to fireworks ingestion, the report said.

This prompted Tayag to appeal to local government officials to disallow and prevent the sale of the firecracker.

The remaining 133 cases are fireworks-related injuries, the report added. Of this figure, 102 have resulted in blast or burns, 10 with blast and burns with amputation. Twenty cases involve eye injuries.

Eighty-three of those injured actively used firecrackers while another 13 were found to be under the influence of alcohol.

No deaths have been reported by the 50 DOH sentinel hospitals.

Katy Perry's Divorce To Russel Brand Is Official!!!

Russell Brand has filed for divorce from popstar wife, Katy Perry. TMZ reports that the comedian filed the divorce papers in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences for the dissolution of their marriage. The couple married in October of 2010 at an intimate ceremony in India.

Rumors that the pair's relationship was on the rocks have been catching wind for some time and were further fueled after the couple spent the holidays apart. Perry jetted off to Hawaii with friends for the Christmas holiday while Brand stayed in London's West End. On Thursday, Brand was even spotted without his wedding ring and Perry was similarly seen on the beach in Hawaii without her precious piece of jewelry.

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," Brand stated, according to AP wires. "I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Brand told Ellen Degenres just weeks ago that his marriage to Perry was going strong. "I am really happily married," Brand explained on the show.
TMZ also conjectures that Brand's filing of the divorce papers could have been a complete shock to Perry based on the legal documents obtained.
Both  Katy Perry and Russell Brand had a tremendously demanding 2011. Perry was on the road with her "California Dreams" tour while Brand has been busy breaking into the American film world. It's no wonder the pair had a less than ideal amount of time to work on their marriage.

The pair, who became a trending Twitter topic almost immediately after news of their split broke, have fallen silent via the social networking site.

Well, like the old saying goes: "Out of sight, out of mind"...
It's a pity because Katie has stated recently that she wanted so much to become a mother and grow her own family with Russell. She even said that she is willing to take a year off to raise their offsprings. Russell  seemed that he enjoyed the idea of becoming a father! Honestly, I didn't expect them to seperate...At least after their latest statements!

Rihanna Like Michael Jackson On Her New Video!!!

Riri rubs and grabs her crotch at least TWENTY times in the video for her new single "You Da One" just like the King of Pop!
While the promo for "We Found Love" looked like a gritty episode of "This Is England", Rihanna goes solo in this effort.

Shot in east London, the black and white film is like a "specialist" remake of "A Clockwork Orange" .

Lady Gaga's Romantic Stroll With Taylor Kinney!!!

She may already have three men in her life ("It's my daddy and Nebraska and Jesus Christ") but it looks like Mother Monster is adding a fourth. Gaga  was spotted out getting quite cozy with previously rumored boyfriend, "Vampire Diaries" actor Taylor Kinney -- no denying the pair are romantically involved now.

And according to Coleman-Rayner, Gaga is crashing with Kinney in his California beach shack -- which he shares with three other friends.

Do you think that Mother Monster found true love or it's just a little crush??

Certainly, it's some sort of commitment!

Joan Collins' Opinion About Jennifer Aniston & Angelina Jolie!

Joan Collins beleives that there is only one true Hollywood beauty left. Despite the fact that  she reached  77 she doesn't mince words.

The 'Dynasty' actress tells UK's Hello! magazine:

"I have to say, there aren't that many good looking actresses around today. I mean, there's Angelina Jolie and there's... Angelina Jolie.

Jennifer Aniston is cute, but I wouldn't call her beautiful. I think that is why Cheryl Cole is so popular, because she is just so pretty and the public are starved of gorgeous people.

"When I was young, everybody on screen was gorgeous."

In the Hello! interview, Collins also disses fat people.

"If you eat junk, you look like junk," she said. "People say, 'It's not my fault, it's my glands'. It's not, it's greed!"

This is strangely similar to the diet advice Aniston gave to Harper's Bazaar UK earlier this year.

"My advice: just stop eating shit every day," Aniston said.

In my opinion, in Hollywood there is madness considering the appearances! If you want to survive as a Hollywood actress or celebrity in general, you have to look as skinny as you can! The funny thing is that we consider role models people who are obsessed so much with their looks that don't realize how much impact their words have on young people. And what about the inner appearance??I suppose that's irrelevant with beauty matters...

Water for Circus Vargas, the Second Screening Around: Give Me Fake Good and Thrilling Circus Over Fake Big Top Disaster Flick

Circus Owner from hell: Christoph Waltz as August powers Water for Elephants.

I wanted to like the film better than when I first saw it in a theater, where I could not hit a pause button and replay to be sure. Since I could in my living room, I'm glad to know that August did not tell his men to red-light vet student Jacob off the train, but "kick him off" at the next station.

Not that I now see August as a nice guy. I see in him the terrific actor (from Inglorious Basterds -- I must check out that flick) who gives Water its most and only intense spine: cruelty to animals and to people.

In fact, the movie is almost relentlessly pessimistic and cruel, forever on the verge of the next August eruption. And when he finally feels the breeze of his wife's sweet eyes for Jacob, all hell breaks lose, and, to that end, the film takes fire.

OK, so The Greatest Show on Earth plotted impossible things too, but by showing Heston throw off the crooked gamers, it was true to history. So why in the world would a circus owner as brutal and barbaric as August NOT have cons working the lot? His envy of the Ringling Brothers and their ethics goads him on, in like manner, to rid the show of the slippery fingered mob. Totally out of character for this king thug. I would love to have seen a real old Hey, Rube! all over the lot in reaction to a towner getting conned.

Most ugly scene of all: Side show men with iron stakes bonking the heads of young kids trying to sidewall in.

Instead of all the historically viable options, this dreary exploitation gives us something that, to my fragile knowledge, has never occurred in recorded circus history: Circus workers themselves throwing open cage wagon doors in the animal tent to let loose the wild ones, a movie aimed at in retaliation, I take it, for August's cruelty to everyone including his own wife.

So, we go from message movie -- sadistic circus owner who, quoting one of his underlings, "shouldn't have the right to be around animals" -- to Hollywood disaster flick when the menagerie is liberated, throwing a tsunami of jungleland vengeance all over the lot.

Circus? Almost nothing. Just snatches of acts. One ring on a railroad show in the 1930s -- are you kidding? Not a single elephant until Rosie arrives ... Are you kidding me again? Topping them all is the idea that Rosie alone(who does things we usually expect to see only in Disney cartons) is going to save the show and give it the pach power to rival Ringling?

Paaaaaaleeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!

What moved me the most this time, a real surprise, was the final scene, back inside the Circus Vargas ticket wagon, with Hal Halbrook as the older Jacob looking back on his years with Marlena and Rosie, both now gone, and wanting to join up, and not "run away with the circus" but "come home."

Boy, how much $ did Vargas have to pay for that prime product placement in the first scene as the camera panned its glorious posters. No wonder last summer in Hollywood, the Vargas show I took in was nearly packed. I've never seen anything close to that in recent one-ring Vargas years.

Some other bits: I did not know elephants could be taught to execute so many movements merely to voice commands. And I still don't believe it. Best of all, and totally fake in my skeptical view, Rosie whacking August with a tent stake is a howler. Although, I loved the scene.

The movie has a terribly superfluous beginning on the Vargas lot, addressing elder abuse and allowing the older Jacob (Hal Halbrook) to set his story in flashback. But all that exposition could have been handled more effectively later into the story when Jacob levels with August about not having finished college; movie should have opened in the dark of night with the lone figure of a young distraught Jacob walking the tracks in limbo, a circus train in the distance coming into view.

Most exciting scene for me was the unloading along the flats, the wagons coming down the runs! Loved the banner lines waving in the breeze, they looked real. (Circus World Museum sure got shorted in the credits, a tiny line at the very end) Why could they not have given us a real rough sounding circus band of the era, I wondered, rather than something approaching Karl King symphonic? Another quibble: The first images of circus acts, in slow misty motion, look more like Cirque du Soleil prepping under a revival tent to bring class to the masses. Excuse me, where did the Great Depression go?

I've not read the book; don't know if I want to. If the movie is true to the book, I'd guess that the book is not well researched, to put it politely.

Water for Elephants is so grim and vicious, so dark and bleak and hopeless, I have no desire to ever see this thing again. And, no "special features" on the DVD; was the cast and crew left just as bewildered and disillusioned as am I?

Here is my greatest circus cinema wish: A movie about John Ringling in the roaring twenties, and then losing power; subplot, the rivalry between Leitzel and the end ring aerialist leading to the latter pushing herself into an affair with Codona. It really happened, kids. There is so much out there under tents of power, magic, intrigue, shame, charisma and corruption to adapt!

End scene: John Ringling a few years later, out of big top power, passed by, sitting in a wheel chair watching a Coles Bros. Circusparade passing him by, tears down his reminiscent eyes.

Despite its disqualification, Regal Films' entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) "Yesterday Today Tomorrow" brings Maricel Soriano her another Best Actress trophy making her the second actress - next to Superstar Nora Aunor - to received the most number of Best Actress awards in MMFF's 37th year history.

But where is Maria to accept the award?

She and the rest of the movie's cast intentionally snubbed the awards night held on December 28 at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City to show their sympathy to the movie's producer Mother Lily Monteverde who is really disappointed in the MMFF committee's decision to disqualify the movie exactly one day before the awards ceremony.

The family drama movie, as previously reported, was disqualified by the MMFF Executive Committee (Execom) from four major award categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and the Gatpuno Villegas Cultural awards.

The committee ruled that Regal submitted a totally different script and cast as previously approved by the committee compared to the finished product now seen in cinemas.

Tyrone Perez Dead, Committed Suicide (Updated)

Tyrone Perez Dead, Committed Suicide (Updated)

Tyrone Perez (or Tyron Perez) is dead. He was 26.

The Kapamilya actor was found lifeless at the back seat of a black Toyota Altis parked along the service road of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela on Thursday night, December 29.

According to Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor of Valenzuela police department, Perez died of a gunshot wound on the right side of his head from a caliber .22 firearm found beside his body.

Although, Perez' gunshot might be self-inflicted, authorities still does not discount the possibility that there is a foul play involved in the actor's death.

However, GMA-7 news reporter Mark Salazar confirmed on his twitter account (@MarkSalazarGMA7) that the actor has indeed committed suicide.

Salazar tweeted:

Young actor Tyrone Perez committed suicide on December 29, 2011. He’s dead. Please pray for his family and friends.”

Perez entered showbiz through the defunct GMA-7 reality-based artista search "Starstruck" in 2003. He also used to be one of German Moreno's co-hosts in Kapuso weekend late night show "Walang Tulugan with the Mastershowman".

Perez, married to a non-showbiz flight attendant, starred in several sexy films like "Pipo: Ang Batang Pro" and "Twilight Dancers".

In 2010, Perez transferred to ABS-CBN and became a member of the station's talent arm Star Magic. He then appeared in several Kapamilya shows like "Momay", "Imortal", Mula Sa Puso" and "Maalaala Mo Kaya".

Just a thought:

Tyrone just like AJ was a Kapamilya actor with the same last name, same year of death, same place where they died (inside a vehicle) and same last TV project - Maaalaala Mo Kaya.

How To Look Like Megan Fox!!!

Here are Megan's beauty tips to stay beautiful!
Her secrets are now revealed. So, what are you waiting for??
Start making use of them NOW!!!

1. My beauty philosophy is ‘less is more’, so my daily routine consists of washing my face thoroughly and moisturising with La Roche-Posay sunscreen. I drink lots of water and think it’s important to get lots of sleep.

2. I always wanted to be blonde when I was little, like Barbie and Pamela Anderson, but it would really damage my hair. It was exotic to me, as my entire family has dark hair. If I did it, I would go white- blonde- really platinum.

3. I always carry Armani Code fragrance as it reminds me of growing up in Florida, as well as Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers and a hand sanitiser. I also keep a lot of moisturisers with me when I travel as the climate changes can dry out my skin.

4. My definition of beauty is simplicity, elegance and sensuality. Ava Gardner is my beauty icon. I think that when a woman is in harmony with herself and remains true to her values, she will glow naturally. Fememininity doesn’t depend on what you wear or how you look. It’s an attitude.

5. Sport gives me positive energy so I exercise everyday with my trainer, Harley Pasternak. Each circuit is 45 minutes long and I lift weights but never do cardio.

6. I eat five times a day and don’t diet, but I do eat healthily- mostly raw and vegan food, with no dairy. It’s not always possible with travel and filming, but I try. I also take supplements like silica and fish oil religiously.

7. I try to keep my make-up fresh, clean and pretty on the red carpet. My signature look is red lipstick worn with plain eyes, so I apply a light foundation, then on my cheeks I use blush or sometimes the same lipstick that I’m wearing. Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick in 400 contrasts well with my pale complexion and dark hair.

8. Even when I’m working I don’t like wearing too much make-up, but when I’m on my own I go bare-faced as I like to give my skin a rest.

9. For a date night I go for beachy, natural bed hair. Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray gives my hair that wavy, thick texture.

10. I have to wash my face every 12 hours and then moisturise. I only take showers as I don’t like sitting in bath water. After my shower I moisturise with Grapeseed Oil from Whole foods. It’s a great moisturiser and lighter than olive oil.
